We recognise that our work in these areas may coincide with some of the most difficult periods in peoples’ lives. We pride ourselves on providing a sympathetic service in dealing with these essential parts of our practice.

Our probate solicitors assist clients with the extraction of Grants of Representation when family members or friends have passed away whether they left a Will or not. Personal Representatives can deal with the extraction of Grants of Representation without a solicitor but this can prove convoluted and difficult. We are happy to deal with as much or as little as you feel comfortable handing over. Our fee for this work is usually charged to the estate of the person who has passed away.

Most people live long and healthy lives and never need a power of attorney. Unfortunately, some people will be less lucky than most, and they will suffer unexpected accidents or ill health. It is wise not to wait to prepare a power of attorney until you need one, as your situation at the time may preclude you from making one! We advise about and prepare powers of attorney for people whose day to day affairs become increasingly difficult to implement. The law changed on 1st October 2007. Up until that date it was possible to create an Enduring Power of Attorney. If someone has made an Enduring Power of Attorney prior to this date it will remain valid, if not you will need a Lasting Power of Attorney.

Disputing the validity or content of a Will or questioning the administration of a deceased person’s estate is quite specialised and only a few solicitors in the UK offer this service. We practice both the contentious and non-contentious aspects of this work should we be required to do so.

We typically deal with:
  • Drafting Lasting Powers of Attorneys (both Personal Welfare and Property & Affairs)
  • Obtaining Probate for people whether they left a Will or not
  • Lost and disputed Wills
  • Administration of estates
  • Inheritance Tax advice
  • Doubling of Nil Rate Bands for deceased spouses (new regulations October 2007)
  • Action against Personal Representatives for neglect or maladministration of estates
